Starting with its name, Epcot is a different kind of Disney world.

Short for Environmental Prototype City of Tomorrow, Epcot was Walt Disney's vision of a thoughtfully organized community for Disney employeesEpcot would be a world unto itself raising its own food and providing medical care to residents.

Although the death of Walt Disney in 1966 ended those dreams of assembling a utopian city, Disney developers put together a complex of pavilions that showcase U.S. industry and the cultures of foreign countries, among other things.
