Fed: Howard urges states to back $10b water plan
Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD is appealing to state premiers to support his government's
10 billion dollar plan to fix the Murray Darling basin .. saying it's the only salvation
for the ailing waterways.
Mr HOWARD'S plan has already been rejected by South Australian Premier MIKE RANN ..
but Victorian and New South Wales leaders say they'll consider the rescue package.
Mr HOWARD yesterday travelled to Coorong .. south of Adelaide .. making a fresh appeal
for the acceptance of the plan.
Mr RANN has refused the HOWARD government's proposed takeover of the basin .. suggesting
a new independent entity be formed to control it.
